Joan Collins is happily married to her fifth husband, producer Percy Gibson, whom she wed in 2002. Their relationship has been a controversial one, seeing that Joan is 32 years older than Percy. The actress recently clapped back at critics in her new memoir, Behind the Shoulder Pads: Tales I Tell My Friends, explaining why age hardly matters to their romance.
She gushed with praise for her 58-year-old heartthrob in an interview with Fox News Digital, calling him the best man she has been with. “He is a really nice, kind, grounded person,” she told the outlet. “Many of the people that I’ve been with have been either neurotic, slightly unbalanced, or gotten into different things.”
Friends to lovers
Joan and Percy started out as co-workers, slowly progressing as friends and then lovers. They “enjoyed each other’s company” and “hung out together” during their first few years of meeting. “We wrote love letters— it was a gradual thing,” Joan reminisced. “And we realized that we were very much on the same wavelength.”

The actress detailed in her book that it was “never too late” to find love like she has, and shared the secret to her lasting bond with Percy. “We were friends first, above anything else,” she wrote, adding that her “great vitality and enthusiasm for life and all it has to offer” makes up for the wide age gap in her current marriage. “Life is a gift. That’s why they call it the present.. so many people waste it…and it does not last for a long time,” she added.
Joan’s past relationships
Joan further touched on her past union with her ex-fiancé Warren Beatty whom she got pregnant with in the ‘60s. The actress admitted they were both not ready for a baby at such critical points in their careers, hence their breakup and her choice to abort.
“He was only 23, a struggling wannabe actor with a potentially great career as a sex symbol ahead of him…” the mom-of-three wrote. Joan went on to have two kids with her second husband, Anthony Newly, and one with her third, Ron Kass. “Motherhood has been wonderful,” Joan said. “…I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
