Tiger Woods’ Son Earns High School State Golf Title In Florida

Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie, recently earned a golf title his famous father never did despite his achievements in the sport. Although Tiger has 82 PGA events, 15 majors, and more money than any player in PGA history, he has never won a high school state championship gold medal, which his son got recently.

The 14-year-old freshman was the fourth of five golfers on The Benjamin School Boys’ team. His 78-76 in two days gave the team their FHSAA Class A Championship at the Mission Inn Resort and Club at Howey-In-The-Hills. They finished 26th overall, with the school gaining their fourth state golf title since its inception.

A chip off the old block

Tiger was present to cheer his son, and they both shared a hug after the big win. In 2019, Tiger admitted that contrary to what people would expect, he does not coach his son in golf. “I don’t want him to fall into that trap. He just watches me do it, and then he kind of does it,” he said on the first episode of A Round With Tiger: Celebrity Playing Lessons.

The series debut was released while Tiger was in recovery from a car crash that happened after filming. He narrated his reason for being so hardworking to Jada Pinkett-Smith, who agreed that Charlie was a “natural” during the conversation. “For me, I always felt like I wasn’t the most talented. So I felt like I had to work my a– off because I was always younger than everyone else, so I want to become better,” he explained.

Tiger’s achievements as a teen

Charlie had the chance to one-up his golfer dad because the California Interscholastic Federation did not conduct state championships in golf while Tiger was a student at Western High School in Anaheim, California. However, he won the CIF SoCal Regional in 1991 and was the Southern Section medalist in the same year, as well as in 1993 and 1994.

Tiger, 47, was the youngest golfer to win the US Junior Amateur when he won the first title at 15. At Stanford University, he won ten collegiate events in two years— his last being the NCAA title and played in three PGA Tour events, which include the Buick Classic, Nestle Invitational, and Motorola Western Open.
