Dolly Parton Updates Her Hit Song ‘Jolene’ For Rock ‘N’ Roll Era

Country music legend Dolly Parton announced that she will be adding a twist to the hit song “Jolene” on her new album. She also added an extra rock track titled “Two Tickets To Paradise” alongside “Jolene.” “Surprise! Did you all think I was done? I’m giving you not one but TWO more ‘Rockstar’ bonus tracks,” she wrote in the announcement. “Download “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Jolene” now exclusively on my website.”

She announced the update with a photo of her on a motorcycle in a black leather outfit, symbolizing her transition into the rock genre. Dolly collaborated with Maneskin for the remake of her iconic single and Eddie Money’s track from 1977. Both new additions are only available to those who purchase the recently released Rockstar album.

Dolly was inspired by her Hall of Fame induction

Dolly was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, prompting her to “live up to” the recognition by releasing a rock album this year. “I’m gonna pull people from the rock ‘n’ roll field to sing with me on it. … I’m gonna actually pull on some of the greats and do a lot of the great rock songs,” she told PEOPLE ahead of the ceremony.

She also made the album for her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, with the intention of adding his favorite songs. “I’m doing the rock ‘n’ roll album because of him, and so when this all came about, I decided that I am gonna go ahead and do it,” she told the outlet. “It was just the perfect storm. OK, it’s time.”

Star-studded album

Dolly shared a clip of herself and Maneskin in the studio on her Twitter to announce the additional tracks, showing a peek into the unique touch on her old song. The album includes many other originals and revivals of old classics featuring fellow legends like Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Joan Jett, Miley Cyrus, Pink, and Brandi Carlile.

She also teamed up with Lizzo and her flute, Sasha, for a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Dolly also featured Lynyrd Skynyrd on “Free Bird,” which is the final track on the all-stars album. “Just getting to be able to sing these songs, much less have these great artists, some of them, come and sing with me on them, it was just over the moon for me,” she told Music 101’s Charlotte Ryan.
