Courteney Cox Pens Touching Tribute To Late Co-Star Matthew Perry

Courteney Cox shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram to her TV husband, Matthew Perry, who died in late October. The sad post came in shortly after Perry’s Friends co-star Matt LeBlanc also mourned his passing. “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you, Matty, and I miss you every day,” Cox wrote, referencing their time on the classic sitcom Friends and their relationship after.

The actress also shared a clip from the show where Perry “whispered a funny line for me to say” just before the cameras started to roll. “He often did things like that. He was funny, and he was kind,” she added. Their romance on the show was motivated by the audience, who wanted them together after their originally intended one-night fling.

Cox and Perry did more movies together

The Friends cast, consisting of Cox, Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, remained close after the series’ ten-season run. Cox and Perry later starred together in other sitcoms like NBC’s Go On and Cougar Town. “It was so great to work with him. He’s so sweet,” Cox said on Conan in 2014. “When I worked with him on ‘Friends,’ he literally gave me my personality for 10 years.”

Their experience working together was mutual, and Perry revealed in a 2014 Twitter post that he enjoys teaming up with her on set. “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share,” Cox added in her tribute before sharing some moments from their most famous show together.

Friends on ‘Friends’ and beyond

In 2015, Perry told Buzzfeed that Cox’s house was their hangout spot for years as she made a good host. “We try to get together when we can. She has a nice place in Malibu, and we try to go out there as often as possible,” he told the outlet. “But the six of us haven’t been in a room together for a number of years.”

The co-stars reunited in 2021, with Cox saying she thought their characters, Monica and Chandler Bing, would still be married since they tied the knot in 2001. “I think my character, Monica, is still really competitive,” Cox said, adding that Chandler is fictionally making her laugh every day.

About two years prior to the reunion, Cox and Perry spent time together, which she shared on social media, repeating his famous line from the show. “Guess who I had lunch with today … I KNOW!! Could I BE any happier?” she captioned the photo. Cox and other Friends co-stars were also present to pay their last respects at Perry’s funeral in Los Angeles.
