Tim Allen and Zachery Ty Bryan starred alongside each other on the popular TV series Home Improvement, which aired from 1991 to 1999. Their on-screen chemistry while portraying the father-son dynamic between Tim Taylor and Brad Taylor was a key and beloved aspect of the show’s success.
Following the end of the series, Ty Bryan faced a number of legal challenges, among them multiple DUI incidents, fraud, and a highly publicized 2020 arrest on charges of allegedly strangling his then-girlfriend. Interestingly, some sources have suggested that Allen, despite facing prior legal issues in his early life, distanced himself from his on-screen son during these times of trouble.
An insider close to the Golden Globe Award winner disclosed to The National Enquirer that Allen has no intention of getting involved with Bryan and the legal issues surrounding him. “Tim wants nothing to do with Zach and his problems,” the close ally admitted to the news outlet. “But he’ll take Zach’s calls occasionally and say he’ll get back to him, but doesn’t.”
The source also emphasized that it’s regrettable that the 70-year-old, in light of his previous encounters with the legal system, appeared unwilling to support his on-screen son. “To some friends, it seems callous,” the insider confessed to The National Enquirer. “They feel Zach deserves a break just like Tim did.”
During a previous conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, in the wake of Bryan’s fraud allegation of his investments in an agriculture-tech startup, Allen voiced his perspective, emphasizing that the 42-year-old is fundamentally a good person who has encountered significant setbacks and challenges.
“I don’t know what’s going on with him. Zach is a great kid who has grown into a complex man. All you can do is step aside and let somebody go through their process,” Tim said. “At a certain point, he deviated from the guy I know to somebody who is reacting to situations that I had nothing to do with and can’t control. I don’t know what happens when people get corrupted. You just don’t know.”
The actor went on to express that despite the current challenges Bryan faces, he believes that he possesses the capability to navigate through the difficulties.”I know Zach’s heart. He’s got to figure out his own way,” Allen explained.
