Disney Releases First Look At Seven Dwarfs From ‘Snow White,’ Now Totally CGI

Disney‘s upcoming live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been on a wild even before the film’s release, having been the subject of many heated debates surrounding casting. Recently, Disney released an image of Snow White, played by Rachel Zegler, along with a first look at the new design for the dwarfs, now done in CGI.

After production stills saw the seven titular dwarfs apparently replaced by various magical folk, discussions ran rampant about whether this was the right approach; part of that stems from Peter Dinklage’s condemnation of having dwarfs in a stereotypical silly setting that he felt set the community back a great deal. Once again, this film seems to have undergone a huge overhaul – including a delayed release date.

Disney releases an official first look at the seven dwarfs, now apparently made with CGI

Disney has just released a first look at the new appearance of the dwarfs from its upcoming live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It features Zegler as Snow White surrounded by CGI renderings of Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Doc, Bashful, and Sneezy.

Zegler is seen decked out in an outfit nearly identical to the animated 1937 version, complete with face-framing bob cut. Although she is not shown, Wonder Woman (2017) star Gal Gadot is trading in her lasso for a dark cloak to play the Evil Queen.

Another big change on the horizon

The live-action Snow White had originally been set to release on March 22, 2024. Now, the anticipated release date is almost a whole year later, on March 21, 2025. The Verge reports that the delay is due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA labor strike, which reportedly has several other studios considering redoing their 2024 release date schedules.

Snow White has been the subject of heated debate over the last few months. First, Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage slammed Disney’s continued use of caricatures of dwarfs in a silly environment. When a production photo surfaced online showing, instead of dwarfs, a group of diverse individuals that were reportedly supposed to be “magical creatures,” Disney emphasized to Vanity Fair that the picture represented “stand-ins.” Then, too, debates arose, with some noting that Dinklage objected to the use of dwarfs in the narrative, but wouldn’t have wanted people with dwarfism to lose out on jobs. Others too blame Dinklage for the various changes that seem to be taking place on the set.
