Jamie Lee Curtis marked the 45th anniversary of one of the most important movies of her early career, Halloween, by taking to Instagram and sharing snippets from the original 1978 installment of the series, including a photo of her as Laurie Strode at 19.
The second slide featured a more recent, doctored image of Jamie kissing her Halloween character’s forehead. “45 years ago today, a 17 day shoot, no budget horror film, Halloween, set in Haddonfield, Illinois, where a young babysitter, Laurie Strode, met the man who would terrorize her and her community was released,” she wrote.
The Scream Queen has undoubtedly formed a connection with her role as Laurie, which gave her the spotlight as an up-and-coming actress in Hollywood. “This movie and Laurie Strode gave me my career that I continue to get to have because of her,” she wrote.
“This image taken for the 2018 promotion by @aspictures @micheleromeronyc epitomizes the trauma and resilience of victims of unexpected violence and the human instinct to survive,” she added, referencing the second picture in the post.
Jamie plays the teenage babysitter who faces the masked killer, Michael Myers, for the first time on All Hallows’ Eve, and has continued doing so until the seventh and final sequel. “Little did any of us know that 45 years later we would be retelling and retelling that same, simple story of good versus evil, and that it would give birth to a feminist icon, the final girl,” she wrote.
44 years later, Jamie got to play her famous now-grown character for the last time, and she described her feelings about her last act in an exclusive essay for PEOPLE, “As I play Laurie for the last time, in Halloween Ends, the final installment of the franchise, I am trying to figure out how to say goodbye to Laurie, who has taught me the meaning of the words ‘resilience,’ ‘loyalty,’ ‘perseverance’ and ‘COURAGE.’
“It’s now the end for Laurie and me. I’m weeping as I write this. I’m going to miss her. Movies are make-believe, but this is my real life. Mine has been made better by her,” Jamie added. In her recent past, she wished her followers “Happy Halloween” and concluded with one of her popular lines from the movie about Myers, “It was the boogeyman.”
