Antiques Roadshow Guest Amazed At The Real Value Of ‘Creepy’ Dolls

The US version of the Antiques Roadshow featured a guest who was in for a surprise when he found out the real value of his creepy dolls. He bought two wooden dolls from a woman at $100, only to discover they were worth thousands.

Speaking to the show’s expert, he asked for details about the “creepy” looking dolls. “I’ve brought in two very old wooden dolls. I don’t know a great deal about them. I’m very curious what you can tell me about them,” he said.

The self-acclaimed collector admitted he almost passed up on the dolls as he was not intrigued by them. “I’ve been collecting since I was a child. I buy and trade and I love stuff. And a woman asked me if I wanted to buy some dolls,” he said. “…I said, ‘No, I don’t care so much about dolls,’” he continued.

Thankfully for him, he agreed and got the rare wooden dolls for a steal, which he was not aware of at the time. The bigger doll was the main focus of the episode and was said to date back to the early 1700s. “There are very few of these that have survived. You can find them in museums,” antiques expert Julie Scott said.

Lucky buyer

The astonished guest told Julie how he eventually gave in after the seller had him look at it. “She said, ‘They’re very, very old, maybe you could look at them’. I understand she inherited them, and she didn’t know anything about them,” he said.

Julie responded saying it was worth more than the amount he paid, adding that the big doll was likely owned by wealthy or royal children and was made with a human hair wig. “She probably would be valued in the range of $15,000 to $20,000,” Julie explained.
