Mackenzie Phillips Recalls Harrowing ‘Celebrity Rehab’ Stint

Mackenzie Phillips, known for her portrayal of the rebellious teenager Julie in the ’70s sitcom One Day at a Time, has traversed a challenging journey on her path to recovery. As the eldest daughter of the late John Phillips of the iconic Mamas and the Papas, her life took a tumultuous turn at a young age as she struggled with drug addiction.

Thankfully, the 63-year-old who spent time at rehabilitation centers has since stayed clean and become a substance use disorder counselor. Philips recently made an appearance at the Podcast fest Dopey Con alongside other celebrities who have undergone their journeys to recovery. During the event, she discussed her addiction struggles and delved into the details of her participation in Dr. Drew Pinsky’s show, Celebrity Rehab, for the 2010 season.
