Madonna looked almost unrecognizable in her recent photos, just months after a health scare that put a hold on her Celebration tour. Fans pointed out that her face looked “painful” and puffy in her appearances as of late, raising questions about any cosmetic procedure she may have undergone.
The Queen of Pop admitted to getting plastic surgery for the first time this year, and although she never revealed how many times she has gone under the knife, a New York board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Barry Weintraub, claims she has done at least twelve facial cosmetic procedures after reviewing her photos.
Madonna’s plastic surgery tweaks through the years
Dr. Barry used his years of experience and expertise to give a breakdown of the “multiple six-figure” beauty procedures Madonna has undergone to maintain her face. From her latest photo, the surgeon pointed out her now “inflated” and “much fuller” cheeks to be a result of multiple dermal filler injections, adding that she lost her dimples over time due to the procedure.

He also noted that she got a brow lift to tighten her face and reduce wrinkles and sagging. “Her eyebrows are higher than the position of her brows in 1986, meaning the distance between her eyelashes and her eyebrows is much higher than ours. You see a lot more volume in the upper third of her face,” he said, comparing her older photos with the new one.
Dr. Barry added that the fat pads under her lower eyelids had been removed, as well as the loose skin on her upper eyelids. “So what you’re seeing is this smoothness and tightness all around and that is from surgical lifting volumization,” he continued. The pretty mole on her face has become faint, likely due to the lighting, but it could also be an effect of the many facelifts.
More on Madonna’s looks
Judging by her now pointy and tilted nose, Madonna likely got at least one nose job, too. “In the original picture, the tip of the nose is blunted, and the nostrils are not arched,” Dr. Barry said. “The nose is more pointy. And if you look closely, the left nostril is also slightly higher than the right.” Madonna’s disturbing appearance results from repeated filler injections, which consist of a gel-like substance infused under the skin.
He also debunked the assumption that she has cheek implants, as there are no visible implant lines on her face. Her lips, which were a topic among fans, are also a result of repeated fat injections, per Dr. Barry’s analysis. “Those are not normal lips, and look nothing like what she had in ’86 and the filler also,” he added. In addition, her jawline and neck also look different, indicating they have been re-shaped under the knife. Additionally, he suggested she may have done laser resurfacing surgery, which involves removal of the skin’s outer layer to increase collagen production.
