Barbra Streisand Announces 2 New Albums With Previously Unheard Tracks

Fans of the musical legend Barbra Streisand will be getting a feast this autumn, as she releases not one but two new albums bursting with poise and nostalgia. This October, she is unveiling Evergreens: Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records and Yentl: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

Across her monumental career that spans six decades, Streisand established herself as one of just a handful of EGOT winners. She has 11 albums that topped the US Billboard 200 chart; this is a record she set in the ’80s that hadn’t been broken until this year. Find out just how her new albums honor this remarkable legacy.

Barbra Streisand surprises fans by announcing two new albums due out this fall

“My new albums are coming out October 27th,” Streisand shared with Vanity Fair. “Evergreens and Yentl both hold a special place in my heart, representing fulfilling and cherished moments in my career. Putting these albums together has been a labor of love, and I’m delighted for fans to experience them in new and exciting ways.”

Evergreens will include 22 tracks, none of which have been included in any previous Streisand compilations, an album announcement notes. It will be preceded by the familiar single, “Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star is Born).” Those who preorder the album instantly get access to this beloved track, which has been given a fresh twist just for this album.

Streisand is offering a retrospective of her career through multiple avenues

As for Yentl, it acts as a celebration of the 1983 film of the same name, with an emphasis on the music that played such a pivotal role in the film’s timeless success. Inspired by a short story of determination against the odds by Isaac Bashevis Singer, Yentl was directed, co-written, and co-produced by Streisand herself. This album is a two-disc set that has the original soundtrack on the first CD and 15 previously unreleased tracks on the second. Included among those are Streisand demos and alternative versions of familiar tracks.

These serve as a powerful leadup to yet another retrospective on Streisand’s uniquely powerful career. The two albums will be released just before Streisand’s memoir, My Name Is Barbra. “Dozens of books have been written about Streisand, and now in My Name Is Barbra, she tells her story in her own words,” reads a press release. It will touch on her upbringing, the work she does to get new albums out, and her relationships with big stars as well as her advocacy work.
