Dolly Parton Teams Up With Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr For “Let It Be” Cover

What happens when half of the Fab Four and the Queen of Country collaborate? Something truly unique. Dolly Parton recently worked with Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney to create a fresh new cover of “Let It Be,” the powerful Beatles ballad from 1970.

Even at 77, Dolly Parton has been hard at work making music. In fact, she has a new album called Rockstar coming out on November 17 – and that’s precisely where fans can further enjoy this collaboration. Rockstar is a collection of original songs and covers – but this one definitely stands out for some very powerful reasons.

With just months to go, Parton has been getting fans excited for her upcoming Rockstar album. “Well, does it get any better than singing ‘Let It Be’ with Paul McCartney who wrote the song?” she cheered in a statement, adding, “Not only that, he played piano! Well, it did get even better when Ringo Starr joined in on drums, Peter Frampton on guitar and Mick Fleetwood playing percussion. I mean, seriously, how much better does it get? Thanks guys.”

Indeed, Rockstar is full to bursting with star power. “I had fun singing with Stevie (Nicks),” Parton gave a special shout-out to. “It’s a song she wrote called ‘What Has Rock ‘n Roll Ever Done for Me,’ a cute little song.” She’s also worked with Elton John, Sting, P!nk, and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus.

McCartney is just as excited as the fans

Released on March 6, 1970, “Let It Be” was written and performed by Paul McCartney as part of a McCartney-Lennon partnership. The single version has notably lower and softer tunes compared to its album counterpart. The song enjoyed great success on the Billboard Hot 100 upon its debut and helped the Beatles secure several career milestones. The song gave the band their seventh consecutive year charting a number 1 hit; George Martin got his seventh consecutive year producing a number 1 hit, and the Lennon-McCartney team got their seventh year penning a number 1 hit.

For all these accomplishments the original achieved, McCartney is also quite proud of this recent cover he, Parton, and Starr put together. “Thanks Dolly for doing my song,” he commented on her announcement. “I love your version and am very pleased to be by your side on this one. Rock on.”
