Just In Sinéad O’Connor, Praised Dublin Singer, Dies At 56

It has been reported that Sinéad O’Connor, an acclaimed singer from Dublin, has died at the age of 56. No immediate cause of death was disclosed. However, she was admitted to the hospital last year after having posted on social media about taking her own life following the death of her 17-year-old son, Shane.

O’Connor released 10 studio albums, but nothing compared to her hit song “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was named the number one world single in 1990 by the Billboard Music Awards. She was also presented with the inaugural award for Classic Irish Album at the RTÉ Choice Music Awards earlier this year.

Remembering Sinéad O’Connor

O’Connor had recently released a memoir titled Rememberings, where she details her own upbringing by her abusive mother and how she coped with her mental health struggles present-day. Her mother would often beat her as a child, and she would then go to live with her father. Although her mother died when O’Connor was 18, she was still haunted by those memories ever since.

O’Connor was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder. This, along with a surgical procedure she’d undergone in 2015 of a radical hysterectomy to treat endometriosis, would eventually lead to her very public mental breakdown. “I was mental,” she admitted at the time, referring to her suicidal posts that have since been deleted. “But I don’t regret those ’embarrassing’ videos. I’m quite proud, in a weird way, that I was that open … The nature of a singer is to be emotionally honest. I’ve always been pretty open. And I have no regrets.”

She is survived by her three children.

This is a developing story.
