Friends of Lisa Marie Presley are surprised at a recent discovery about their late friend, following a new revelation that linked her death to a bariatric surgery she had done. The Los Angeles court previously ruled the cause of her death to be a small bowel obstruction, which newer reports have now linked to the weight loss surgery.
Lisa Marie’s friends knew her cosmetic procedures like Botox, beauty injectables, etc. Still, they wonder why she would opt for bariatric surgery. This surgical procedure is carried out on obese people as a last resort when other methods fail and is done by gastric bypass, gastric band, or sleeve gastrectomy.
This recent update about the late singer’s cause of death has gotten her fans and friends confused as to why she would have opted for such extreme measures to reduce her weight. “When did you ever see Lisa look like she needed bariatric surgery? She was not big at all. I don’t know what kind of doctor would perform this surgery on her,” a source wondered.
“Most of the time, the scar tissue does not cause a problem, but it can cause a kink, twist, or other mechanical issue in the intestine, leading to blockage,” Dr. Mir Ali, a bariatric surgeon, told Healthline about the complications following such surgeries. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office also reported that the singer experienced abdominal pain, fevers, vomiting, and nausea months before she died but did not seek medical attention.
Lisa Marie reportedly took weight loss medication days leading to the 2023 Golden Globes to “look her very best.” She was said to have lost up to 40 lbs in preparation for the celebrated awards ceremony. “She went on a crash diet to lose 40 pounds before showing up with Baz for the Elvis movie. She was having financial problems, and she hoped the publicity from the film would bump up Elvis’s sales,” a private investigator said.
Two days after the event, she complained of a stomach ache and was quickly rushed to the hospital after paramedics performed CPR on her. Sadly, the Presley heiress died shortly after, and reports revealed that she had opioids like Oxycodone and Buprenorphine, including other medication in her system. It was also confirmed that no narcotics were found in her house when she was taken to the hospital.
