As Ringo Starr approaches his 83rd birthday, the former Beatles star shared in an interview with PEOPLE that he still feels he hasn’t aged a bit. He also reminisced of the early days of his career as he remains active in touring with his All-Starr band.

“Nothing makes me feel old. In my head, I’m 27. Wisdom’s a heavy word. [Getting older] is what happens, and you try and keep yourself busy…” he says. “I never felt really down. I mean, I have my moments, of course. But my spirits are high. That’s all I can say, really.”

The drummer is still committed to making music

Despite a remarkable music career spanning over six decades, the musician continues to surprise his fans with exciting performances. Recently, Paul McCartney revealed that they will be releasing a new song featuring the vocals of the late John Lennon. These vocals were extracted from an old demo with the assistance of Peter Jackson, the director of the documentary film Get Back.

Starr also stated that he maintains an open-minded approach when it comes to collaborations, expressing that he doesn’t currently have any specific partnerships in mind, but he remains receptive to new ideas and possibilities for future collaborations. “I can be surprised, I mean, I’m on a lot of people’s records,” he admitted. “I like to do it for my friends. But sometimes people take a chance. Now I’ll be inundated! No, I only do my friends [laughs]. I play the drums and then we put them on the track, and we send it back. This was what we did to Dolly’s. Use me or lose me!”
