Adele Warns Concertgoers Who Throw Objects At Her On Stage

Interactions between singers and their fans are far from rare, even before the advent of social media. Concert venues could be the site of much crowd surfing and hand-holding. But audiences have also taken to throwing objects at the artist onstage, and Adele has responded to this common phenomenon.

Going to the ballet, it’s not uncommon to see flowers thrown at principal dancers. Ice rinks will fill with stuffed toys after a skater performs. But at concerts, some people throw bras, adult bedroom items, and even cell phones – the latter of which can cause serious injury. Adele, who often throws items at her crowds, issued a challenge that acts as a lesson to her fans.

Adele addresses the trend of audience members throwing objects during concerts

Adele is in the midst of her Las Vegas residency. Weekends With Adele runs through November 2023 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Adele sometimes tosses T-shirts at her audience members, but at a recent Vegas concert, she took things to the next level, wielding a T-shirt gun in an intimidating manner.

“Have you noticed how people are like forgetting f—ing show etiquette in America,” she said to the concertgoers as she paced the stage, large T-shirt gun in hand, “they’re just throwing s— on stage. Have you seen that?” Adele wants none of that, as evidenced by a July 2 Instagram post capturing the moment. “F—ing dare you,” she added, T-shirt gun very much visible and at-the-ready. “Dare you to throw something at me.” To make her point, she fired a warning shot, jokingly adding, “Stop throwing things at people … when you can shoot things.”

Why the need for discussions like this?

When Adele warned audience members not to throw objects at the star performer – or anyone onstage – she wasn’t referring to a single isolated incident. In, fact, there have been multiple accounts of fans throwing some very hard, substantial items onto the stage, which then actually struck whoever was performing.

Sometimes, injuries even come just from singers crossing paths with other people, too., like when a fan slapped Ava Max “so hard that he scratched the inside of my eye,” the artist claimed.

But in terms of tossing items onto the stage, perhaps most prominently, Bebe Rexha was reportedly struck by a cell phone hurled at her during a June 18 concert in New York City. The blow sent Rexha to the hospital.

But the damage isn’t even just the physical harm it can cause; some artists have reported feeling alarmed and frightened when confronted by projectiles of any size and toughness. For example, “Someone threw a bracelet, it hit me in the eye, and it more so just scared me than hurt me,” shared Kelsea Ballerini.
