Christina Applegate Shares Update About Her Career As She Battles Multiple Sclerosis

Christina Applegate’s acting career has been seriously hampered following her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2021, and she has been vocal about her struggles with the ailment. She learned of her diagnosis while working on the final season of Dead to Me, and she subsequently took to Twitter to inform her fans, expressing how she felt about the revelation.

“It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition,” Applegate admitted. “It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some [expletive] blocks it.”

While accepting the prestigious TV legacy award at Variety Fest, in recognition of her remarkable achievements in the industry, Applegate openly expressed her appreciation to fans for being a part of her struggles.

“Thank you so much for being so understanding as I journey through this new part of my life,” she confessed. “Not knowing If I’m gonna continue on to – to act anymore. I don’t know if I can, I’d love to. I do miss it. I miss it so much. I just don’t know. As a daily struggle to walk and to kind of move, and stuff. But I’m so glad I ended with a show like ‘Dead to Me.’”

She further revealed that it is doubtful whether she will still progress with her career or not. “We don’t know what my future as an actress is going to be,” the actress told Variety. “How can I handle it? How can I go onto a set and call the shots of what I need as far as my boundaries physically?”

The 51-year-old disclosed that she enjoyed her time on the set of Dead to Me. “It was the most fun I had ever had. ‘Dead to Me’ has that place in my heart now. But after ‘Samantha Who?’ I never thought I would have another experience like that ever again. The cast and the crew were sublime,” Applegate explained. “The stars aligned and we were gifted this moment in time. When it was cancelled, I cried in bed for, like, a month.”

Applegate concluded that she was happy to have the series as her last job because she was in serious distress at the time. “I could see the excruciating pain I was in every day I was there and I didn’t want to relive it,” she stated. “I had to take it in little tiny doses but I think it is a beautiful piece of work. I’m so grateful to Liz for seeing I had it in me. If this is my last job, thank God it was with Linda.”
