Kathy Griffin, who was diagnosed with lung cancer, posted in December 2021 that she had beat the condition. However, her voice has not remained the same ever since. Recently, the 67-year-old shared before and after videos following her left vocal surgery.
In the BTS clip of the procedure, Kathy told fans that she underwent surgery “to be in good shape for my big Vegas show on June 17.” The comedian, who will be performing at The Mirage Theatre in Las Vegas on June 17, also shared BTS of her recovery after the procedure.

Kathy spoke up about having stage 1 lung cancer in 2021, even though she had never smoked. On The Jimmy Kimmel Show in 2021, she shared that the intubation tube affected her vocal cord. “In August, I had half of my left lung removed. I’m not even kidding,” Kathy had said.

Earlier this year, Kathy also shared her struggle with complex PTSD and asked her followers for tips on how to deal with anxiety and depression. “Let’s talk about PTSD. Never talked about it publicly. You can laugh or whatever, but I’ve been diagnosed with complex PTSD, and it’s called an extreme case,” Kathy said in the video.

Kathy was dressed in a red shirt and matching jacket in the TikTok video, which she captioned, “I so appreciate you guys following along on my journey to get my voice back after #lungcancer! Big shout out to Dr. Barbu.”
She also added text to the video to warn viewers beforehand. “Trigger warning: medical graphic. You are about to see some s—,” the texts read as Kathy proceeded to remove her sunglasses and look at the camera.
Kathy was scheduled to have her surgery the following morning and showed her doctor performing a laryngoscopy showing the insides of her throat and vocal cords. “Yes I know my vocal cords look like a mini vagina. Deal with it,” Kathy joked.
The video continued with Kathy after the surgery in a hospital gown. “I’m a little scratchy today, but I’ll be in good shape,” she said from the hospital bed. “… part of my recovery post-lung cancer surgery. I’m cancer free.”
