Keith Richards Duets ‘Live Forever’ With Willie Nelson At 90th Birthday Celebration

Recently, Keith Richards surprised fans on stage at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night to celebrate Willie Nelson’s birthday. Keith approached the stage with his signature one-liner, “It’s good to be here, it’s good to be anywhere,” to join Willie.

The surprise happened at Willie’s second 90th birthday concert, with both legends singing about being survivors and finishing off their performance with Billy Joe Shaver’s “Live Forever.”

Keith and Willie sang “We Had It All,” which they previously performed at the Wiltern in L.A. for a live tribute to Nelson in 2004. “I’d like to thank Willie for inviting me to this party,” Keith said.

Willie started the song by Troy Seals and Donnie Fritts as the house band consisting of Don Was, Jamey Johnson, and Nelson’s sons, Lukas and Micah, joined them. “I’m surrounded by Nelsons,” Richards remarked after that bit.

Keith and Willie also performed Shaver’s “Live Forever” which was so relatable to the celebrant’s life well lived as it spoke of taking the moment and leaving a lasting legacy. “When this old world is blown asunder, and all the stars fall from the sky/remember, someone really loves you,” both friends sang.

Celebrity guests like Billy Strings, Kris Kristofferson, and Norah Jones were present at the opening concert on Saturday night, and the Sunday show where they sang some of Willie’s classic hits. As Willie turned 90, the legend is still on the road and has no plans to retire yet; this summer, he will be on his Outlaw Music Festival Tour featuring other music artists.
