Life in the limelight can be very different not just for the primary famous individual but for all those around them too. So, even before becoming known as a blogger and actress, Eva Amurri, daughter of Susan Sarandon, had a unique upbringing. In fact, to hear her talk about it, it was an outright circus.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Sarandon, 76, discussed her parenting style. The Thelma & Louise star is the mother of three: Eva Amurri, musician Miles Robbins, and Jack Henry Robbins. Eva has already appeared in films alongside her famous mother. But what was it like growing up with Sarandon as a mother?
Earlier this month, Amurri took to TikTok to discuss her personal life. One of her 102k followers wanted to know, “Did you grow up with other ‘celebrity’ kids/families??” To this, Amurri confirmed, “Yes, I did grow up with a lot of other kids of celebrities because anytime my parents would do a movie or a TV show or anything like that, there would be, of course, the other kids of those other actors and directors who would all be together.”
She continued, “People who grew up in the industry sometimes liken the experience to growing up in the circus, in the sense that you spend these really surreal periods of time really closely intertwined with other people, whether that’s other people’s families or individuals. You’re just spending all this quality time with a certain group and you become so, so close. Almost like family.”
In response to this assessment of Amurri’s upbringing, Sarandon said, “I think normal is very overrated.” She continued, “I think everyone likes to go to the circus, so I don’t see any problem with that as long as all the animals don’t get too out of control. I think our life is unusual and they’re exposed to lots of [things]. I dragged them with me whenever I worked, so they went all over the globe.”
This, Sarandon believes, was a gift to the kids. “I think it’s one of the best things that I ever gave them, that view of their place in the world,” said Sarandon. “Also, they’re very flexible and adjustable and I think that’s a really, really important thing for kids to have that adults have. So, no apologies here. I’ll talk to her therapist, but I don’t apologize.”
