It has been reported that legendary guitarist Jeff Beck has died at the age of 78. Beck’s family confirmed the news in a statement, saying, “On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing.”
“After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family asks for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”
Beck became known for revolutionizing the way musicians played guitar. He was an eight-time Grammy nominee, and was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, both as a member of the Yardbirds and his own work in his own Jeff Beck Group. Many other musical greats such as the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell had nothing but great things to say about Beck, especially when he placed Number Five on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists.
“Jeff Beck has the combination of brilliant technique with personality,” he said at the time. “It’s like he’s saying, ‘I’m Jeff Beck. I’m right here. And you can’t ignore me.’ Even in the Yardbirds, he had a tone that was melodic but in-your-face – bright, urgent, and edgy, but sweet at the same time. You could tell he was a serious player, and he was going for it. He was not holding back.”
Just back in 2022, Beck had been touring with actor and musician Johnny Deep after the duo recorded a cover album together called 18.
