For over five decades, Steve Martin has reigned in Hollywood and has had a successful career as an actor, comedian, and writer. He has made his audience laugh for years with his funny roles in hit movies like The Pink Panther and Parenthood, among others.

Aside from starring in films and the streaming series Only Murders in the Building, the Grammy award winner is also a doting father to his only child, whom he shares with his second wife Anne Stringfield.

Steve married Victoria Tennant in 1986, but the couple split and went their separate ways in 1994. He did find love again in 2007, as he tied the knot with writer Anne Stringfield and, in 2012, the lovers welcomed their daughter, Mary Martin.

The 77-year-old confessed that he was not always keen on being a dad, but he experienced a change of heart after taking a role in the movie, Parenthood. “I was not a kid person and when I did Parenthood, I would see these kids, who were like little freakish things, and I’d realize: ‘They’re not so bad; I actually like them,’” he told The Irish Times. “So, it did pave the way to an understanding that I would like children. Now, I see a kid and I’m staring at it like: ‘Oooh! Ahhh!’ Especially a little toddler.”

Mary Martin

In December 2012, Steve and Anne welcomed their daughter, Mary. Her birth was hidden from the public for some time, “They’ve had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows,” a source told The New York Post in February of 2013. “Steve’s very private. They are thrilled. They worked hard to have the baby.”

In an interview with AARP magazine in 2017, Steve revealed that Mary came at the perfect time. “I think if I’d had a child earlier, I would have been a lousy father because I would have misplaced my attention on my career,” Steve revealed. “I am very forthcoming with her, and it’s great. She’s giving me way more than I’m giving her.”

Steve is currently dedicating most of his time to nurturing and watching Mary grow. “Oh, it’s fantastic … you have all the time in the world,” Steve stated during an interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph in 2020.“You’re all set and secure in life, and you’re not building your career. Now, I’m just hanging around the house playing with my daughter. It’s great.”
