Robert Redford has starred in some of the most commercially successful and critically-acclaimed films over the years. He made his acting debut in 1959 with a minor role in the Broadway production of Tall Story. His performance in 1969’s Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid launched him into superstardom, thus allowing him to star in a series of blockbuster movies, winning a Best Actor Oscar nomination in 1973 for The Sting.
Besides his achievements, he also doubles as a caring father to the four children whom he shares with Lola Van Wagenen, with whom he tied the knot in 1958. Their kids are Scott (deceased), Shauna, David James (deceased), and Amy, with the couple itself eventually separating in 1985. Let’s take a look at Robert Redford and his four children.
Scott Anthony Redford
The actor and his ex-wife decided to start a family and had their first son, Scott, in 1959 after moving to New York while Redford was studying first at the Pratt Institute and then at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Sadly, the baby died at seven weeks old, the victim of crib death or sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Devastated, Redford sought solace in acting and kept his son’s death as private as possible.
Shauna Redford
After the death of their first child, Redford and his former spouse did not allow the grief to overwhelm them. In November 1960, they welcomed their eldest daughter, Shauna.
However, the 62-year-old did not follow in her famous father’s footsteps in acting, but has, instead, built a successful and solid career as a painter. Shauna has been married to her longtime love Eric Schlosser since 1985 and they share two children, Conor and Mica.
James “Jamie” Redford
James, who is the carbon copy of his father, was a renowned film director in the entertainment world. He was noted for producing, directing, and writing many TV shows and award-winning documentaries, such as The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia in 2012. He collaborated with his father to start The Redford Center in 2005, an organization that wants “impact-driven film and media to galvanize the movement toward environmental justice, protection, and repair.”
However, in mid-October 2020, James Redford was diagnosed with liver cancer which led to his death. The late director was married for 35 years to his wife Kyle, with whom he shared two children, Dylan and Lena.
Amy Redford
The couple welcomed their fourth child, daughter Amy, in October 1970. The youngest of the Redford children began acting as soon as she was old enough to do so. She attended the San Francisco state university to study and hone that craft. The 52-year-old has built a career as an actress, producer, and director.
Her most recent performances were in Hate Crime and Candybar. Amy was formerly married to Mark Mann and currently lives with her partner, Matt August, with whom she shares her only daughter, Eden August.
