One year ago, Pauley Perrette suffered a stroke. She is known for her role as Abby Sciuto on the CBS crime drama NCIS. Though she left the series in 2018, she has kept fans updated on her latest projects and her health. A year after the big health scare, she shared a post emphasizing her status as a survivor.
That’s because her 2021 stroke is actually just one of many scares and troubles Perrette has faced – not just in recent years but throughout her life. In her Twitter post, shared on September 2, Perrette lays out some of what she’s faced, putting it all into perspective, and assuring that she is still surviving.
Perrette has kept fans updated on various changes in her life, from new hair colors to upcoming projects. “It’s 9/2,” Perrette prefaced in her post. “One year ago I had a massive stoke. Before that I lost so many beloved family and friends, And daddy And then Cousin Wayne.” Back in 2021, Perrette lost her father, Paul, to COVID-19 when he was 85. The Equality, Alabama resident had served as a firefighter and member of the United States Air Force. From her loving description of him as a “joke teller, hug giver,” and dad always ready to hold hands, he was just as much a friend as he was a father.
In her post, Perette went on to say that despite all this loss, she is still going strong. “Yet still a survivor after this traumatic life I’ve been given so far,” she assured. “And still so grateful, Still so full of faith, And STILL HERE!”
Perrette has had health scares extending beyond the window of recent years, stretching back several. She recalled being rushed to the hospital back in 2014 when she had a reaction to hair dye during her NCIS tenure. Indeed, during her time on the show, tensions would rise between Perrette and co-star Mark Harmon, which prompted Perrette to level physical assault allegations against Harmon.
“Yes, I’m still here, again. How many times do I cheat death?” Perrett reflected in her video. “Like I almost died from a hair dye allergy. I have food allergies, I’m a domestic violence and a rape survivor. I was assaulted by a crazy homeless person and almost died and I’m still here. I’m feeling really grateful and especially for all my rescue dogs that are over there. And I’m here, I’m still here, I feel good. I’ve been through a lot in the last two years.”
