‘Wonder Woman’ Star Lynda Carter Sticks To Her Online Advocacy And Politics

Lynda Carter rose to fame as the righteous Amazing Amazon, Wonder Woman in the ’70s, fighting evildoers and keeping civilians safe. Today, Carter still takes an interest in current events and gives active responses to them. Some of her posts on Twitter have sparked debates, but Carter is determined to maintain her advocacy for marginalized groups.

Carter, along with other celebrities whose most famous titles span multiple decades, has voiced their opinions on various political and social topics. Views fall on both sides of a matter and everywhere in between. Wonder Woman in general has had fans debating since a new comic included the LGBTQ+ community. Women’s rights and health have also dominated the headlines lately and that is what Carter has most recently discussed online.

Lynda Carter sticks to advocacy online

Back in June, Carter inspired some debate when she declared Wonder Woman a queer and trans icon. The topic of Diana Prince’s sexuality has been discussed before, the latest Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot saying Diana loves people solely for their heart. Carter maintained her advocacy for the trans community when she responded to the latest debates following Roe v. Wade being overturned. The topic of gender identity came up, as some people feel saying just “women” is exclusionary to trans women. Individuals such as J. K. Rowling and Macy Gray denounced this view and assert that theof “woman” belongs only to people who were born with female anatomy. Bette Midler also brought up labels online, specifically objecting to the term such as “birthing people.”

Carter condemned this in a July 5 post that reads, “I cannot think of anything that helps women’s rights less than pinning the blame on trans women. They face so much violence and scrutiny as is.” She went on to say, “Leave them alone and focus on the real war on women. It’s happening in the courts and legislatures around this country.”

Carter doesn’t plan on slowing down

Carter’s social media is a mix of career updates, humorous posts, insights into her personal life, fashion, tributes to her late husband, and – especially now – politics. But the latter has always been present to some extent, from openly supporting some presidential candidates and slamming anti-gay legislation.

Recent events, though, seem to have inspired a new kind of fervor in her. “I am so stunned I haven’t really spoken out about my feelings,” Carter admitted. Reportedly, according to The Guardian, Carter gets some help by a team of younger social media experts who help her channel her views and advocacy into clear posts.
