Country singer Charlie Daniels passed away almost two years ago. Unfortunately, separate acts of vandalism and theft were performed at his gravesite and his family is rightfully very upset about the situation.
Charlie is buried at a cemetery near his former home in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. A tree and its watering bag near the gravesite were stolen. In addition, someone glued a military ID belonging to his or her spouse on the marble grave marker.
After the separate incidents, the Mount Juliet Police Department will be increasing patrols and installing video surveillance near the gravesite. While some fans don’t think the military ID is truly an act of vandalism, the family explained why it made them so upset.
Team CDB tweeted, “What the article doesn’t make clear is that several months ago, an expired military dependent (spouse’s) ID of a woman who has since been divorced from her military spouse was superglued to the marble on the marker. The family welcomes anyone leaving items, what they do not want is to have items glued to the marker, or have any trees that the family planted nearby (with the full consent of the cemetery owner) dug up and stolen. – TeamCDB”
The family does allow fans to leave items around the grave which many have done. A photo shows ball caps, painted rocks, stuffed animals, and special coins being placed around Charlie’s grave. His grave marker features Psalm 91.
