Ronnie Spector’s Husband Shares More About Her Life Before Her Death At 78

Ronnie Spector passed away at the age of 78 back in January of this year. Now, her husband is speaking out about their life before she passed away and how they met. Ronnie and Jonathan Greenfield were married for almost 40 years and had two sons together.

Jonathan met the ’60s music icon in 1978 when he was stage managing an off-Broadway production. He had previously seen her perform at New York’s Madison Square Garden a few years earlier and had been mesmerized by her.

Jonathan saw Ronnie in the audience and went up to her. He shared, “I said, ‘Do you mind if I hug you?’ She sort of looked at me like, ‘Give me a break.’ [But] Ronnie let me give her a hug and when I hugged her, she squealed like a little mouse. That was the first time I hugged her.”

He said that she returned to the show every night and they eventually started dating. Jonathan continued, “We did everything together for close to 42 years. There’s a lot of little things about our relationship that just balanced each of us. It’s sort of like two trees next to each other; throughout the years, they grow and the branches start to intertwine.”

He also said that Ronnie was working on her music until the very end. Unfortunately, she never completed a song that she was working on with Margo Price called “Fight to Make It.” Jonathan added, “I still have the lyrics sitting on the music stand with Ronnie’s notes on it. She was in such a wonderful place. She was so joyful. We’d go for a walk in the park and [it was like] she had found the secret to happiness. I was happy that I could be there with her and help her get to that point.”
