This Stunning Medley Between Julie Andrews & Mama Cass Is Giving Us All Chills

Julie Andrews and Mama Cass may have been involved in two very different kinds of music genres, but together, they are truly magic. Mama Cass, also known as Cass Elliot, was 1/4 of the folk music group The Mamas and the Papas. Elliot went on to form her own successful solo career and performed to sold-out crowds until her unfortunate death in 1974 at the age of 32.

Julie Andrews, who is still alive today and 86 years old, rose to fame in roles such as Mary Poppins in the film of the same name, Maria in The Sound of Music, and a number of Broadway roles as well including in the show My Fair Lady.

Who knew that one day these two would cross paths and even sing a duet together? The medley opens up with the two harmonizing to Elliot’s hit song “Make Your Own Kind of Music.” While they sing different genres of music and have very different vocalizing styles, they sound absolutely perfect together on those harmonies. The two also sing the songs “New World Coming” and, another of Elliot’s hits, “Dream a Little Dream of Me.”

This performance was actually part of Andrews’ variety show, The Julie Andrews Show, in 1970. And, not for nothing, there’s just something about hearing Andrews singing Elliot’s song. It gives you a whole new perspective on women from different vocal styles coming together and singing together, as if it was always meant to be!

This isn’t the only time the duo came together to sing. They also sang a Simon & Garfunkel medley in 1972 (and hearing the two sing “The Sound of Silence” together is just other-worldly on its own). A YouTube comment encapsulates exactly how we all feel about this: “Two of my absolute favorite female voices of different genres, singing together??! There IS a Heaven!”
