Due to her failed rapport with members of her mother's family, she decided to reach out to her half-brother from her father's relationship after his divorce from her mom. Her decision to meet her brother was informed by her desire to know more about her dad, a bassist who toured with famous musicians like Reba McEntire until he died in 2011. The woman also discovered that she and her brother had similar life experiences. "We were each of our family's black sheep. We'd both gotten ourselves on track as adults.
