Kenny Loggins has spent more than half a century singing about love, from “Danny’s Song” to “Heart to Heart,” but he kept the biggest love story of his later life almost entirely to himself. The man behind “Footloose” and “Danger Zone” turned 78 on January 7, and somewhere along the way he quietly got married. There was no press release and no Instagram announcement to say so.
Instead, the news slipped out on a theater stage in Los Angeles, in front of fans who had come to watch a movie about his life. What he said that night, and the small detail tucked into the film itself, made for one of the gentlest surprises of the year.
How Did a Movie Night Turn Into a Wedding Announcement?

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles hosted a screening of Kenny Loggins: Conviction of the Heart, the documentary directed by Dori Berinstein that follows him from Loggins & Messina to his final concert. During the Q&A afterward, as People first reported, Loggins paused to thank someone in the audience. “I want to take a moment and acknowledge my wife, Lisa,” he said.
That one word, wife, was news. Loggins had been with Lisa Hawkins for years, but nobody outside the family seemed to know they had made it official. Entertainment Weekly, MassLive and Closer Weekly all followed People’s report that the couple had eloped in Hawaii, and that a personal photo taken after the elopement made it into the documentary. Anyone who watched closely had seen the proof before he said a word.
Neither of them has said exactly when the ceremony took place, but he had been dropping hints about her for years.
What Has He Said About Lisa Over the Years?

The first time he spoke about her publicly was in March 2023, when he told AARP about his farewell tour. “Lisa and I have been together five years,” he told the magazine. “I want to put more time into that.” The road had grown harder every year, he said, but having her along changed it. “She travels with me on the road,” he said. “It’s much more relaxed than it used to be. I love it.”
He described the pandemic lockdown as a happy accident for a new couple. “I considered 2020 a rehearsal for retirement,” he said, recalling the ebikes they bought and the pleasure of not having to be anywhere at a certain time. A few months later, Do You Remember? readers saw the two of them out together in a rare 2023 outing, back when she was still being described as his girlfriend.
Now they are stepping out as husband and wife. According to Hello!, they walked the carpet hand in hand at the Coronado Island Film Festival’s Leonard Maltin Industry Tribute Awards at the Hotel del Coronado on November 4, 2026. MovieMaker, which covered the festival, reported that when artistic director Merridee Book joked that he could write a song for her grandchild, he shot back, “You’ve got to name him Kenny, though.”
This is his third marriage, and the first two played out during the busiest years of his career.
What Came Before Lisa for Kenny Loggins?

Loggins first found fame in the early 1970s with Jim Messina, who had just left Poco, and Loggins & Messina sold millions of records before playing their last show in 1976. On his own he became the go-to voice for movie soundtracks, and “Footloose” went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 31, 1984, where it stayed for three weeks. It is still his only chart-topper. Two years later “Danger Zone” roared over the flight deck in Top Gun, and it came back for a new generation in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022.
That same year he published his memoir, Still Alright, written with Jason Turbow, and it covered the marriages as well as the music. He married Eva Ein in 1978, and they had three children before divorcing in 1990. He married Julia Cooper in July 1992, and they had two more children before that marriage ended in 2004. By the time he told AARP that “fame is an empty bucket,” he had decided to slow down for good, and he played his final concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl on November 4, 2023. “Let’s go out on top rather than wait until someone says, ‘Kenny, you should get out of the way,'” he said at the time.
Retirement from the road, it turns out, did not mean retirement from singing. He found a new duet partner, and she came into his life along with Lisa.
Who Covers Kenny Loggins’s High Notes Now?

Lisa has a daughter, Hunter Hawkins, who is 25 and a singer herself. At the Grammy Museum Q&A, Hello! and Closer Weekly reported, he bragged about her. “We perform together a lot,” he said. “She covers all the high notes for me now.”
He meant it. When Loggins was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York in June 2026, Gavin DeGraw sang “Danny’s Song” in tribute, and then Loggins and Hunter performed “Heart to Heart” together before DeGraw joined them for “Celebrate Me Home.” In its write-up of that night, published June 12, three months before he ever said “my wife” in public, the Hall of Fame described Hunter as his stepdaughter. The family, it seems, had known all along.
For Loggins, the joy now is less about the stage than about the room where the songs get made. “Being in the studio with her and working out new ideas is the most fun I’m having right now,” he said at the screening, as reported by Hello!. After two marriages and a lifetime of other people’s movie moments, he gave himself a quiet one in Hawaii, and then let the film tell the story.
