One year after Hollywood lost Diane Keaton, her daughter, Dexter Keaton White, is remembering the beloved actress with a touching message about life without her mother. Dexter began her message with four simple words: “One year without you, Mom.” She went on to describe the strange passage of time since losing her mother, explaining how the loss sometimes feels recent and distant at once.

“It somehow feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once. I’m still trying to get used to a world where I can’t call you, have you there for a hug, or go on adventures with you,” she wrote. “It’s the everyday moments that remind me just how much I wish you were still here. I love you and I miss you. Always.”

The actress died following a bacterial pneumonia infection, and Dexter’s words reflected how deeply her absence continues to affect everyday life.

Rather than focusing on major milestones, Dexter shared how much she misses the ordinary moments they once enjoyed together. She spoke about no longer being able to call her mother, embrace her, or go on adventures with her. Those familiar experiences, which once seemed so natural, have become precious memories. She ended her post with a simple expression of love, writing, “I love you and I miss you. Always.”

Although millions remember Keaton for her unforgettable performances in Annie Hall, The Godfather, and The First Wives Club, Dexter knew her as a loving and devoted mother. The actress adopted Dexter in 1996 and her son, Duke, in 2001, embracing motherhood while maintaining her successful Hollywood career. Dexter has frequently celebrated their relationship, including on what would have been Keaton’s 80th birthday in January 2026, when she shared memories of her mother and a tattoo honoring her. On Mother’s Day, she also posted childhood photographs, including a beach outing and another tender moment from her wedding.

Their bond was evident long before the actress’s passing. In a 2014 Mother’s Day message, Dexter expressed gratitude for being adopted by such a strong, beautiful, and talented woman. For movie lovers, Keaton’s legacy lives on through her distinctive fashion, memorable characters, and decades of remarkable performances. Yet Dexter’s latest remembrance offers a more personal picture of the woman behind those famous roles. Beyond the awards and Hollywood success, she was a mother whose love continues to shape her daughter’s life, even after her passing.
