After 25 years, Evelyn O’Connell is finally back. New photos from the set of The Mummy 4 have surfaced as production gets underway, offering the first glimpse of Rachel Weisz returning to the adventure franchise alongside Brendan Fraser.
According to ScreenRant, the reunion brings together the stars who helped turn 1999’s The Mummy and its 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, into enduring favorites. Weisz skipped the 2008 third installment, with Maria Bello taking over the role of Evelyn, so seeing the original actress back in costume marks a particularly nostalgic moment for longtime fans.

The newly surfaced set photos show Weisz dressed in vintage clothing as Evelyn, signaling that filming has officially begun. Her last appearance in the franchise came in The Mummy Returns in 2001, making this the first time audiences will see her opposite Fraser’s Rick O’Connell in more than two decades. ScreenRant reports that fans quickly celebrated the images online after they began circulating.
Fraser has also returned, and several familiar faces are joining the reunion. John Hannah is coming back as Evelyn’s brother Jonathan, while Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O’Connor are among other returning cast members. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo known as Radio Silence, are directing the new installment.
The Original Mummy Duo Is Finally Reuniting
Excitement around Rachel Weisz returning comes from how strongly fans associate Evelyn and Rick with the first two films’ mix of romance, comedy, and adventure. Her absence from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor left that original pairing feeling unfinished for some viewers. Now, Weisz and Fraser are returning to the roles that helped define a major era of their careers.
Plot details remain largely secret, which leaves plenty of questions about what has happened to Rick and Evelyn since audiences last saw them together. What is already clear, however, is that the new movie intends to reconnect audiences with the characters and performers who made the late-’90s version of The Mummy such a nostalgic favorite. Universal currently has the film scheduled to reach theaters on Oct. 15, 2027, after moving it forward from its previously announced 2028 release date.
