At the same time, he realized today’s younger cast members are now the same age he was when Spaceballs first hit theaters.
Although wearing Lord Dark Helmet’s famous costume again felt unusual at first, those feelings quickly changed. Moranis said the role soon became comfortable, and he found himself genuinely enjoying the experience of playing one of comedy’s most memorable villains again.

The filmmakers paid close attention to recreating Lord Dark Helmet’s signature appearance for the sequel. Director Josh Greenbaum even asked Moranis if he remembered the brand of glasses the character originally wore beneath the oversized helmet. To everyone’s surprise, Moranis had preserved the original eyewear. He explained that the glasses contained his prescription, so he kept several pairs from different films throughout his career. Joking with the Comic-Con audience, he laughed that instead of playing with action figures over the years, he had been “playing with my glasses.”
