As Crystal and Ryan stepped out onto the 2025 Oscars stage, they were greeted with the familiar tune of “It Had to Be You,” a song that became synonymous with their classic movie When Harry Met Sally. During the presentation, Billy Crystal couldn’t resist quoting his character’s famous line with a tweak.
“Because when you have a chance to be an Oscar winner for the rest of your life, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” Their reunion delighted movie fans eager to witness the duo recreate their chemistry in real life. Crystal and Ryan presented the Best Picture award while announcing the film Anora winner.

Billy Crystal’s connection with the Oscars goes way back, as he has hosted the award show nine times. His first hosting stint was in 1990, and he charmed the attendees with his quick wit and people-person personality. Over the years, he returned to host the Academy Awards in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2012.
At the 2025 Oscars ceremony, Crystal joked that it was great to be back, stating he “worked here.” When Ryan inquired about how long ago his first hosting assignment was, Crystal joked about it being many tuxedos ago and then stated it had been 35 years since his first time hosting.
