There have been rumors that Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr has never eaten pizza or curry throughout his life, and he recently confirmed this during an appearance on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. The audience was shocked to hear this from Ringo, who turns 85 in July.
He also clarified that his name actually comes from his teenage years as a gang member in the Toxteth area of Liverpool. Ringo was born Sir Richard Starkey, and many fans did not know this until the interview. He got Ringo because his mother liked shiny rings, and he started wearing them, giving his gang mates the idea.
Why has Ringo Starr never had pizza or curry?
Ringo clarified that he is allergic to many things so he prefers to avoid eating pizza or curry at all as they have many ingredients. He is strict with his meals because eating the wrong thing can make him ill almost immediately.
Per his gang membership, some did not get a name as lovely as his. During fights, they got different weapons, and his friend Tommy got a hammer, leaving him with the moniker Hammerman. Ringo added Starr to his name when he joined Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.
Ringo Starr made up his stage name for a gig
Rory Storm and the Hurricanes had a three-month gig to perform, and they needed to change their names. Ringo considered adding “Cowboy” to his. He then added his other actual name, Starkey, which did not sound too right.
Ringo finally took the last three letters off Starkey and has kept this moniker ever since. Despite approaching his nineties, Ringo has no plans to retire. He even dabbled into country music recently, making the album Look Up, which he appeared on The Jimmy Kimmel Show to promote. Show host Jimmy gifted him a cowboy hat with a Sergeant Pepper theme, referencing his Beatles era.
