Dick Van Dyke was one of the many celebrities who went public with their support for 2024 US presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Unfortunately, her opponent and former president Donald Trump won the election by a landslide, and Van Dyke shared his thoughts about the results.
The 98-year-old was spotted with his wife Arlene Silver, as he answered questions on the go about America’s future. Although he hopes the transition does the country some good, he did not sound so hopeful as he followed up with a witty revelation.
Dick Van Dyke says he won’t be around much longer
Van Dyke, who turns 99 in a month, admitted to feeling fortunate about not having to experience a Trump presidency as he does not have much time left to live. The renowned actor canceled a few public appearances recently because he felt old and unsure about witnessing his next birthday.
Interestingly, Van Dyke has yet to officially retire and is still open to projects, including a one-man show tour. Despite being an alcohol and smoking addict in his youth, the father of four has managed to live a healthy life for the most part and has been sober for decades.
Dick Van Dyke went all out for Kamala Harris
Van Dyke urged his fans to vote for Harris before the election, highlighting the urgent need for humanity in a world plagued by prejudice and inequality. He also addressed the racial problem in America, noting that Martin Luther King’s dream of 1964 has only seen little progress so far.
Van Dyke’s fans on either side of the divide applauded his involvement in politics, with some defending their contrary opinion of his preferred candidate. “There were no wars with Trump’s term! Also less murders in America under Trump’s term,” someone argued, causing a stir in the comments as the opposing side clapped back.
