Riley Keough was quite the rebel as she pursued her Hollywood career against her parents’ wishes. She recently disclosed that her dad, Danny Keough, and Lisa Marie Presley, who was famous in her lifetime as Elvis Presley’s only child and a musician, wanted her to stay out of the spotlight.
The 35-year-old recalled, during a chat with Elle UK, that she always liked performing and had to disobey her family to make a living out of it. With a career spanning more than a decade, Riley has made a name for herself as an actress, filmmaker, and author.
Riley Keough’s family warned her about pursuing fame
Sensing Riley’s determination, Lisa Marie warned her about the downsides of pursuing fame, as she urged Riley to be extremely good at her job and to be taken seriously. The late singer feared that her children might end up as embarrassing celebrity kids, and the public would not take them seriously.
Riley took the risk, and it has clearly paid off with impressive achievements to her name, including her production company Felix Culpa. She is also the new owner and overseer of the famous Graceland estate in Memphis and is working hard to preserve her family legacy as a Presley heir.
Riley Keough acknowledges her family’s role in her success
In a time when celebrity kids try to get rid of nepo baby tags, Riley is embracing it as she acknowledges the role of her family name in her success. She believes being a descendant of Elvis and Priscilla Presley helped break her into the industry faster, as she was able to meet those who mattered by simply being her.
Riley recently wrapped up her media tour to promote Lisa Marie’s posthumous memoir From Here to the Great Unknown, which she completed using tapes and diary entries left behind by the late icon. She is also thriving as a family woman and mother of one to baby Tupelo, who she shares with Ben Smith-Petersen.
