There is no doubt that Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise is one of the most talented actors to grace Hollywood with his daring stunt skills and his ability to push new heights in every movie. However, despite his career success, fans are always left to wonder why he is affiliated so much with the church of Scientology after the numerous strain it has put on his relationship with his family and friends.
The action star joined the church of Scientology in the ’80s during his marriage to his first wife, Mimi Rogers. Cruise has been one of the notable faces of the church given his celebrity status and has also been a key member of the church, rising in ranks until recently when it was rumored that the 62-year-old was trying to cut ties with the church to connect with his youngest daughter Suri Cruise.
Tom Cruise has been named as the biggest victim of the Church of Scientology
A former high-ranking member of the church, Mitch Brisker, who once served as the senior director and creative executive at Scientology’s Golden Era Studios, shared that even though Tom Cruise has been devoted to the church and has upheld its tenets, the actor seems to be conflicted with himself because he is “living in a distorted reality,” as it appears that his relationship with the church has seriously done more harm to him than good over the years.
Career-wise, Cruise has continued to flourish; however, the actor has had three failed marriages, and his Scientology beliefs were the major reason for his divorce. On top of that, Cruise has a strained relationship with his children, especially his youngest daughter, who he welcomed with Katie Holmes. Since his split with Katie in 2012 on the grounds of his Scientology beliefs, which Katie was afraid would put their daughter’s safety at risk, it’s been rumored that the actor has been estranged from his daughter since then.
Tom Cruise might have to grind an axe with the church of Scientology
There have been speculations lately that Cruise is seeking a way out to reconnect with his only biological daughter Suri, but that only remains a wishful thought for now as the actor is too invested in the church and cutting ties with will leave him more conflicted as he will be caught up in a mess with his two adopted children, Isabella Jane and Connor Anthony.
Cruise adopted Jane and Anthony during his marriage with Nicole Kidman in the ’90s, and the actor introduced them to the Church of Scientology, where they are firmly rooted, and they occupy key positions currently. Leaving the church means he might end up being a stranger to his children just like the church declared his ex-wives enemies of the church as they don’t believe in maintaining relationships with those who don’t support the church’s beliefs. Also, Cruise might cut ties with the church’s leader, David Miscavige, who he has had a close friendship with since the 80s. It seems the 62-year-old is hanging by the thread no matter the choice he makes, and this confirms Brisker’s claim that he might be the biggest “victim’ of the church.”
