In a repeat of what happened in October 2022 where Ringo Starr had to cancel multiple tour dates in the U.S. due to COVID-19, the 84-year-old drummer called off the long-awaited show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and a venue in Pennsylvania.
The tour kicked off on September 7, but unfortunately, because of Starr’s health issues, the final two dates, which were scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, had to be canceled. Ringo’s sad tour call off happened after he celebrated his 84th birthday in July with a message of “peace and love”.
Ringo Starr’s failing health
A statement from Starr’s team revealed that he came down with a cold, “and on doctor’s advice, has canceled the last two shows to rest.” Fans with tickets were also assured of getting an automatic refund. Following the recent development, fans and well-wishers have raised concerns over Starr’s ability to continue performing at 84.
While some fans expressed frustration over the last-minute cancellation, with one calling it “diabolical” just four hours before the show, most fans showed their support and love. “Love you, Ringo! Feel better soon!” wrote one sympathetic fan, while another added, “Though I’m sad we missed tonight’s show, Ringo’s health and happiness come first.” Starr had completed ten successful U.S. shows with his All Starr Band, concluding on September 22 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, before the sickness took him down.
Ringo Starr still faces health challenges even with his strict health regimen
Despite his strict organic vegan diet, sobriety, and rigorous exercise routine, Starr still faces health challenges. A source added that even his obsessive health habits can’t keep illnesses at bay. Starr, who has been sober for 34 years, shared his regimen with The San Diego Union-Tribune. “I watch what I eat, have been vegetarian since 1992, and exercise regularly with a trainer three times a week,” he said. On tour, he hits the gym at least four mornings a week.
The singer has always paid attention to his health, incorporating herbal remedies, vitamin supplements, and meditation into his daily routine. However, sources suggest Starr’s efforts aren’t yielding the same results as they once did. “He’s trying his best to stave off the inevitable, but sadly it’s not working like it used to,” the source said. “For a guy who never got the sniffles, this is worrying.”
