Elton John has battled a series of health problems for years, and his recent update has stirred up concern among loved ones and fans. The 77-year-old assured his Instagram followers that he is recovering slowly from a severe eye infection, which he began dealing with this summer.
Although his statement had a hopeful tone to it, people are worried about the star’s now limited vision in one eye, which he admits will take a long time to reverse. “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far,” he added.

John’s career amid health issues
John’s career began in his teen years, and by the ‘70s, he was already a known name in the industry. He then established his Rocket Record Company and collaborated with the Beatles on multiple projects. Later in his career, John began to suffer health issues such as prostate cancer in 2017, and an ankle sprain in 2019 that restricted him to a wheelchair.
John was also diagnosed with COVID-19 in January 2021. The same year, he had a fall so bad he had to postpone the European and UK leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour until 2023. Due to his incessant illness, John retired from touring, with his final show being in Stockholm, Sweden, last year.
