Sophia Loren is a proud mother of two despite being told she could not have kids decades back. Her sons, Carlo Jr. and Edoardo, now have children of their own, making the Hollywood Golden Age star a grandmother of four as well. “The beauty of my grandchildren fills me with joy, they are what makes my life worthwhile,” she once said.
The 89-year-old icon was married to her late heartthrob, Carlo Ponti, for 41 years until he died from pulmonary complications in January 2007, and she has since remained single. “Maybe little infatuations, but falling in love is quite another thing. Perhaps in life, you fall in love only once,” she had previously noted about her love life.

Loren was recently seen at her daughter-in-law’s 50th birthday celebration, and Alexander shared photos from her event on social media with the caption, “Geneva in the spring.” In one of the snaps, the stylish movie star posed in a blue suit and a white blouse and was flanked by her sons and Alexander. Fans were delighted to see Loren still looking as gorgeous as ever and proceeded to gush about her beauty in the comments. “Sophia looks good,” someone exclaimed.

Alexander’s post received more compliments, with people calling Loren “stunning” and “a classic beauty.” “Great photos. When I saw the first one and saw where you were, I was about to ask how Mama was. She looks fantastic! Brava Sophia!” another added. “I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like having a timeless icon like Sophia Loren for a mother-in-law,” someone else wrote.
Loren has been quite open and candid about her family life over the years, particularly her journey through motherhood. “An Italian doctor told me that I could not have children. I always disagreed, and in the end, he finally was proved wrong. I always disagreed,” she once recalled. Two years after her marriage to Ponti, Loren welcomed Carlos Jr. in 1968 and Edoardo five years later. “Every reward is the fruit of discipline, of dedication, and of sacrifices. And of stubbornness,” Loren, who is clearly a goal-getter, said in 2017.
The multiple Golden Globe award winner often sings her son’s praises, saying they turned out well and are good-natured men. “When I received prizes for what I have done in films it is nice. And when people congratulate me on my family, as they say I have beautiful children. And like all mum’s I’m very proud,” she said. Loren has worked with her kids, especially Edoardo, on multiple projects, including 2002’s Between Strangers and 2014’s Voce Umana.
