Former Beatles singer Paul McCartney was recently sighted on the streets of London, leaving onlookers and fans in awe with his look. The 81-year-old musical icon had long been known for his distinctive brown beards—a hallmark of his image that he proudly sported for three years.
However, in the recent paparazzi picture, McCartney unveiled a significant change as his once-dark full beard had been transformed into stubble with a prominent shade of whitish or greyish hair, marking a visual testament to the fact that the singer is now embracing the aging process.
Paul McCartney’s beard was very popular with his fans
In the late ’60s and early ’70s, McCartney became widely recognized for his distinctive full beard — a signature style choice that has continued to fascinate his fans. The enduring appeal of his beard goes beyond written guides, as information about it has been featured on several blogs, and also has an Instagram account dedicated to it, aptly named @paulmccartneysbeard.

The Instagram account’s bio that reads, “Dedicated to the finest beard in rock ‘n roll history. Pictures from 1969-1971,” is aimed at curating and sharing a collection of photographs showcasing the evolution of McCartney’s style during that remarkable period, leading up to the eventual legal split of The Beatles in 1974 (four years after they’d formally stopped working together).
Paul McCartney is rumored to have previously dyed his beard himself
During his marriage to second wife Heather Mills, which ended in divorce in 2007, McCartney, who had a penchant for saving money, took a more conservative approach, opting for a home dye kit instead of getting a professional dye job, which cost him about £120 per service.
However, the singer’s economic choice didn’t come without its share of concerns, as his then-wife expressed worry over the public’s reaction to the color of his self-dyed hair. Thus, McCartney began visiting a hairstylist in New York on the recommendation of Mills. As of now, the singer does not need to go through the stress of dying his hair to sport his signature look as he has allowed old age to finally catch up with him.
