The outfit worn by Willy Wonka is not only a symbol of the movie, but was also a particular point of interest for actor Gene Wilder in accordance with his embodiment of the character. In fact, Wilder stated his opinions of the original sketch of the costume in a letter to the film’s director, Mel Stuart.
