It’s Willy Wonka!
The purple jacket, top hat, and cane are a staple of the Chocolate Factory owner that teaches Charlie and his peers a thing or two about resistance and discipline in an arguably ominous way (It’s a stream made up of chocolate for goodness sake! What did you expect Mr. Wonka?!) The outfit worn by Willy Wonka is not only a symbol of the movie, but was also a particular point of interest for actor Gene Wilder in accordance with his embodiment of the character. In fact, Wilder stated his opinions of the original sketch of the costume in a letter to the film’s director, Mel Stuart.
