Tara, the name of Georgia plantation in the historical novel, is actually located in Georgia! Apparently, the author, Margaret Mitchell, modeled Tara after the Clayton County plantation, where her grandmother was raised. Twelve Oaks, a neighboring plantation in the novel, is currently the name of many establishments in Georgia.
