We had never heard it called this before or used this exact recipe, but we can say we certainly had steak sauce with crackers on more than one occasion. This recipe uses Worcestershire sauce and butter on crackers which then are baked in the oven for 5 minutes.
You can also take those buttered crackers from earlier and smash them up into hot sugared coffee to make coffee soup.
Snacks like these might become meals for those who had little, and we can imagine a treat like this one subbing for breakfast rather nicely.
You may know them as magic bars and you may have made them with graham crackers, but the first recipes for this treat were made with saltines.
