“MUSIC TODAY”

  • 1959 – This artist changed the name at the suggestion of Dick Clark’s wife Bobbie because he resembled a teenage Fats Domino.  He scored 35 hits over three decades, but on this date, Chubby Checker debuted on the chart for the first time with “The Class
  • 1959 – Wilbert Harrison rose from 6 to 1 with “Kansas City”.  
  • 1964 – A riot broke out in Hamilton, Scotland during a Rolling Stones UK tour when over 4,000 fans with forged tickets gate-crashed the bands gig at the Chantingall Hotel.
  • 1966 – The Hollies recorded “Bus Stop” at EMI Studios in London.
  • 1966 – The Castilles, featuring Bruce Springsteen on lead vocals, recorded a couple of tracks at Mr. Music in Brick Town, New Jersey
  • 1967 – John Lennon and Paul McCartney sang backing vocals on The Rolling Stones track ‘We Love You’ during a session at Olympic Studios, London.
