The life and legacy of Matthew Perry will take center stage in a new Netflix documentary arriving this fall. The three-part series, titled “The One About Matthew Perry,” will premiere on Oct. 27 and promises a more personal look at the beloved actor beyond the character that made him famous.
According to Deadline, the Matthew Perry documentary will feature intimate reflections from family members and close friends, including his sister Mia Perry Bowick. Rather than focusing only on his years as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” the series aims to explore Perry as a funny, generous, vulnerable person who also spoke openly about the difficult battles he faced throughout his life.
The Matthew Perry Documentary Will Explore the Man Behind Chandler Bing

Mary Robertson, known for “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” directs and executive produces the three-part series. According to Netflix’s description, the documentary will examine Perry’s life through people who knew him personally, highlighting his humor, generosity, struggles, and determination to be understood as more than a television icon.

Perry Bowick said she needed time before she felt ready to share memories of her brother. She explained that she wants viewers to see him as a complete person rather than only as Chandler or someone defined by addiction. She also remembered his generous spirit and ability to make people laugh and feel loved, even during difficult periods in his life.
‘Friends’ Made Perry One of Television’s Most Beloved Stars

Perry became a household name as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” joining Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer in one of television’s most famous ensembles. His quick delivery and sarcastic humor made Chandler a fan favorite throughout the sitcom’s 10-season run. His career also included films such as “Fools Rush In,” “The Whole Nine Yards,” “Almost Heroes,” and “Three to Tango.” Away from acting, Perry became increasingly open about addiction and recovery, using his own experiences to speak candidly about the struggles that followed him for years.
Perry died in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, 2023, at 54. The medical examiner listed the acute effects of ketamine as the primary cause, with drowning and other factors contributing, and ruled his death accidental. The Matthew Perry documentary arrives nearly three years later, offering a more personal look at the man behind Chandler Bing and the honesty that shaped his legacy.
