As he listened more closely, Coulier began noticing details that reminded him of conversations and experiences from their relationship. He eventually realized that some of the song’s emotions may have reflected what Morissette experienced after their split. Coulier admitted that the realization made him think he had genuinely hurt her, offering a more reflective perspective on a relationship that later became part of pop culture history.

Despite the painful history behind the song, Coulier has made it clear that he holds no resentment toward Morissette. The two eventually reconnected years after their breakup, and he described her warmly while recalling a particularly meaningful moment involving his family. When Coulier’s sister Sharon was dying of cancer, Morissette reportedly drove from Toronto to Detroit to visit her in the hospital. She played guitar and sang to Sharon, showing Coulier her caring nature beyond their complicated past.
