Christopher Nolan’s latest epic has sparked renewed interest in historical blockbusters, and one film enjoying a fresh wave of attention is 2004’s Troy. According to FarOut, however, not everyone involved looked back on the experience with admiration. While audiences helped turn Troy into a global box office success, one of its legendary cast members had a dramatically different opinion. A Blockbuster That Divided Its Own Cast

After the movie premiered, O’Toole openly criticized both the finished film and its director, revealing that he left a screening less than an hour into the movie because he found it difficult to enjoy.

Although critics offered mixed reactions in 2004, audiences embraced Troy, helping it earn roughly $500 million worldwide. As a result, the film became a commercial success despite the behind-the-scenes challenges and divided opinions among those who created it. A few years later, Wolfgang Petersen released a longer director’s cut, encouraging many viewers to revisit the epic with fresh eyes.
Interestingly, Peter O’Toole was not the only cast member who expressed disappointment with the final product. Brad Pitt also later shared that making the film had been a difficult experience, even though it eventually became one of his biggest box office hits.
